What Are Some Ways We Can Help With Business Debt Relief?

Our experienced business debt relief consultants are here to help you through this stressful time.

Hey there! So, let’s chat about the state of the Small Business Administration, or SBA as you might know it. Just recently, Maria Contreras-Sweet, the head honcho of the SBA, published her final report before handing over the reins. You know how it goes, out with the old, in with the new, and all that jazz. If you want to digest the whole report, you can grab your digital copy here: [sba-exit-memo](https://www.sba.gov/sites/default/files/2017-01/SBA%20FY09-16%20Progress%20Report%20FINAL%2001-17-17%20Web.pdf).

Breaking Down the Memo

Maria had quite a bit to say in her farewell report. She pointed out the SBA’s actions during the financial crisis, how they acted as the lighthouse amidst the storm to keep small businesses safe. As things started looking up, they made sure these businesses weren’t left behind.

Here were their main goals:
1. Modernizing programs and systems to improve access to capital.
2. Ensuring equal opportunities for entrepreneurs no matter where they come from.
3. Enhancing support structures to cultivate high-impact, exponential growth startups.
4. Opening up access to global markets through exporting.

The SBA’s Track Record

In her report, Maria proudly mentioned that since 2009, the SBA guaranteed a whopping $179 billion in small business loans. That’s more than anyone else in history! And there’s more – annual SBA lending in their most massive programs rose by more than 160 percent since the recession, according to the report.

But, of course, every rose has its thorns. During the recession, SBA loan defaults spiked. Back in 2004, the default rate was only 2.4%, but by 2009, it jumped to almost 12%. That’s quite the hike! Many former business owners are still feeling the burn of SBA loan defaults that went down during the recession. There’s no running away from this – there’s no statute of limitations when it comes to the government collecting on SBA loan defaults, even those from 2009.

Looking Forward

The deck’s been reshuffled, and a new SBA administrator’s stepping in. Positive economic conditions are forecasted, but the ripple effects of the recession on SBA loan guarantors are like to linger.

Got an SBA loan sailing into default? Time to call in the cavalry.
